All GCG programs are customized to meet local needs. GCG representatives meet with stakeholders and local organizations or sponsors to listen to their issues, concerns, and hopes regarding wealth creation for the region before designing a program that will complement—and not duplicate—existing or planned initiatives.
Most programs involve taking inventory of the assets of the region—early-stage technologies with commercial potential, existing small businesses interested in international markets, and individuals with an entrepreneurial drive—and evaluating those assets in terms of their potential for wealth generation for the region. Common building blocks of GCG programs include
- technology assessments,
- entrepreneur workshops,
- training of technology transfer officers and/or incubator managers,
- the establishment of organizations, such as incubators, to support program gains.
