Technology Business Incubation Management
GCG offers a set of materials and workshops developed for managers and staff of technology venture incubation and acceleration operations.
GCG has conducted training for new incubator and accelerator managers and staff for many years; however, new needs have emerged for moving incubators and accelerators forward to a higher level of capability and effectiveness, and serving the needs of entrepreneurs to create ventures that can compete in an increasingly borderless, globalized business world. GCG has developed a comprehensive new set of workshops designed to train managers, staff, and stakeholders of technology business incubators and accelerators, in order to foster the creation of globally-competitive companies. The topics can be combined in various courses of training in order to meet the needs or a region or partner.
Technology Transfer Office Management
The GCG International Technology Transfer Office Best Practices Curricula is a set of materials and lectures developed to prepare technology transfer office managers for effectively transferring technology from universities or research institutes to the private sector and effectively managing their officer operations.
The interactive workshop includes: technology transfer office models, managing disclosures, technology scouting, intellectual property strategies, bridging the funding gap, effective operations and creative resourcing, effective marketing and competitive intelligence, licensing, valuation, winning strategies for negotiation.
The Scientist’s Role in Technology Commercialization
This course is specifically designed to explain how technology commercialization fits into the research activities of a laboratory and describe the role of a scientist in facilitating the commercialization process. This course provides scientists and lab directors with knowledge and understanding so that they can support a laboratory’s goals for technology commercialization more effectively in their regular activities. The outcome of the program will be scientists and lab personnel familiar with the technology commercialization process and what best practices can be used to maximize the value of technology developed in the laboratory and later commercialized. The program also creates a baseline for the role of the scientist in the commercialization process. This will maximize the value of the technology and the skills of the scientists who participate in the program.
Entrepreneurship Training, including Training in Effective Presentations
GCG Entrepreneurship Training has been designed to benefit representatives of technologies seeking commercialization of their innovation—whether that commercialization avenue is licensing, joint development, or formation of a new business. GCG training includes topics such as commercialization strategies and technology commercialization, effective strategic management for global businesses, understanding the market and market challenges, venture formation and financing, licensing or joint development, marketing a technology, and presentation delivery and practice
The Quicklook® technology assessment methodology was created by IC² faculty to obtain reliable and valuable data on the IP status, market potential, and technology issues of an innovation in a relatively short period of time. Specific recommendations for a commercialization strategy for the technology are formulated and reported.
GCG has created a curriculum for a Quicklook seminar, as well as a process for training and certifying managers in the Quicklook methodology. The seminar is appropriate for a wide audience, while the certification process is appropriate for technology managers who will devote a substantial amount of time to technology assessments.
The Online Innovation Readiness™ Series
This ten-module online series covers each of the key challenges in commercialization. At the end of the modules, an innovator will be prepared to pitch an innovation in a compelling and persuasive way to potential customers, partners and investors. Online tutorials for each module provide students a rich interface with the in-depth content on each topic in the series. The IR series can be delivered in English, Spanish, or Russian. To enroll your organization in an online IR course, please contact Prentiss Riddle. Costs: $1000 per trimester (4-month period) for course set-up, plus $140 per student seat/participant. “Teacher” seats cost $190 per teacher seat/participant and include include a skype session with the IC² Institute Canvas learning management system (LMS) coordinator explaining how the teacher can use the LMS to monitor student progress. Terms: Payment is due in advance of course set-up. A course will be set up within two weeks of receipt of payment. The four-month course period begins on the day the course is set up.
