The IC² Institute | The University of Texas at Austin
In August, IC² Institute researchers found ourselves in need of data on the current state of the economic challenges and opportunities throughout Texas, in order to provide the larger economic context for a series of sixty-three community-specific reports from this past summer. What began as a research project to fully inform the selected communities in our Regional Economic Recovery Initiative, turned into a compilation of vast and important sets of data that we want to share with all of Texas.
The resulting report, The State of THE STATE OF TEXAS, September, 2020, is now available for download on our website. This report distills key trends which should be considered as we respond to the economic, health, and lifestyle shocks presented by the pandemic.
The IC² Institute, a research center at The University of Texas at Austin, sees itself as more than a think tank. We are a service-oriented think-and-do organization with the mission to better understand and catalyze communities outside major urban corridors to become more collaborative and resilient through a human-centered approach. We implement programs that fuse research with action and aim to have a positive impact around the world and here in Texas — our home.
In these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever to take advantage of all the tools available to create new paths to success and to the sustainability of the many diverse communities we love across Texas. We need to examine the research, talk directly with the citizens and community leaders of our state, and incorporate this data and these voices in the redesign and rethink plans for our beloved communities. We learned a lot this summer — about the vulnerabilities of some of our rural towns during health crises, about increasing migration to urban centers, and also about some of the core strengths of our state. We are determined to use the data we collected to help citizens and leaders plan. For that reason, The State of the State of Texas is available as a free download. We have shared the report with leaders at the state and local level but also hope that anyone thinking about the future of our state will be able to take advantage of this compilation of data.
