The 2015 UTTP competition was won by a team of technology transfer officers from İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi, İstanbul Üniversitesi, and Bilkent University. Their technology was the Spark 12V portable battery for remote automobile startup and power.

UTTP is supported by competitive grant through the US Department of State Building Opportunity Out of Science and Technology (BOOST) Program and partnered with Bilkent Cyberpark, Bilkent University and Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV).

It is the first and only “hands-on” technology commercialization training program in Turkey. It follows the IC² Institute’s “Think and Do” model wherein instruction and training is based on active participation using “live” examples of technology innovation. Teams are formed between entrepreneurs, providing technology based innovations or businesses, and technology transfer and incubation leaders who learn best practices from the IC² Institute for technology assessment and development of commercialization strategies.

The twelve UTTP sessions are taught by IC² Institute commercialization experts or other collaborators. The sessions provide the theoretical basis and provide opportunity for participations to practice critical skills necessary to manage technology innovations and create successful businesses and/or commercialization deals. UTTP teams practice business communication skills in both written and oral forms and top performers, as judged by deliverables, are recognized for their achievements. To date, approximately 120 Turkish commercialization experts and entrepreneurs have participated in the UTTP program and commercialization strategies have been built for 30 technologies. Technologies from the program have received commercial interest in the EU, Asia and North America.
