The IC² Institute announces the appointment of new Advisory Board Member Dr. Chiquita A. Collins, Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer; Associate Professor/Researcher within the Department of Population Health Sciences at UT Health San Antonio. With over 25 years of experience in race relations and social epidemiology, research and practices, Dr. Collins provides our board with a wide variety of skills and knowledge to help the institute advance its mission toward the well-being economy.
Dr. Collins earned her master’s and doctorate degrees in sociology from the University of Michigan. She completed postdoctoral training in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Scholars Program at the University of California at Berkeley/UC San Francisco and received certification credentials from the AAMC Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate (HEDIC) program. She is also a fellow of the prestigious Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program at Drexel University, cohort 2019-2020.
She joined UT Health San Antonio in September 2017 as the inaugural vice dean for inclusion and diversity at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. In March 2022, she was promoted to vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the university, includes all five schools: nursing, dental, medicine, health professions, and the graduate school. Prior to 2017, she served five years as the associate dean of diversity and cultural competency and assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
