The Austin Equity Commission (AEC) was created in May 2000 and charged with building a consensus around a strategic vision for long-range economic prosperity and social equity. Using the Austin Index and the U.S. Census of Population to compare wage and wage inequality data between 1980 and 1990, wage and wage inequality trends in Austin can be compared with other high-tech regions.
