Priya Kumar-Kaparaboyna, MD, is a reproductive psychiatrist who practices in the Women’s Reproductive Health of Texas and Maternal Fetal Medicine clinics, as well as providing consultation through Texas’s Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN).  She is an assistant professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Women’s Health.  She specializes in psychiatric management during reproductive events and times of hormonal transition, largely focusing on the perinatal period.   She attended UT Austin for undergraduate studies, earning a B.A. in Plan II Honors and a B.S. in Psychology.  She obtained her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine then moved to the northeast to complete her general psychiatry residency training at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and her fellowship in women’s mental health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.   In addition to finding deep meaning in providing direct psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic care to individuals experiencing the dynamic and life-changing events of reproductive transitions, she is passionate about increasing access to specialist care through consultative models.  She also works to increase awareness of perinatal psychiatry, from medical students to clinician colleagues across the state.
